Columbia River Gorge

Today we took a cruise on this sternwheeler down the Columbia River Gorge. The scenery was beautiful with craggy rock formations and wonderful wooded mountain sides.
Here are American Indians fishing in the Columbia River using nets. Per a treaty, only American Indians can still fish in this manner on western rivers.

A scene looking east on the Columbia River.

Here is another way American Indians fish in the Columbia River. The river bank has many of these little wooden jetties out into the water. The indians us hand nets to catch the fish here.

After leaving the riverboat, we drove along old US30 and saw many beautiful water falls. This one in Multmonah Falls.

Believe it or not, this is a rest area on old route US30. Yes, those really are stained glass windows . There are also marble floors inside. According to the attendants, this was built in the early 1900's and went a little over budget.
Yes, you folks from Wooster that are following this blog, US30 that runs through Wooster is a coast to coast highway which we found runs through Cody, WY and now through the Columbia River Gorge to the Pacific Ocean.
